Work from home

March 11, 2020 my University announced classes would resume online after spring-break to help mitigate the spread of Coronavirus. The first few weeks were clumsy but working from home proved to be effective and enjoyable. Most recently I have been working remotely as an Associate Data Analyst with Sentry Insurance for my capstone.

Communication

Throughout my professional and personal experiences, I have learned that actively listening is the most important aspect of communication. If you are just waiting for your turn to talk that is not communicating. This allows you to understand what the situation and needs are. Only after this can you start working on the problem. With working remotely, we miss out on all the nonverbal communication we are used to experiencing, this requires being extra vigilant on written and oral communication to be an effective communicator.

Research

The reason I decided to pursue Data Analytics is that I am a lifetime learner. When faced with a new situation or opportunity the first area I dive into is accumulating information. This allows me to investigate and analyze the opportunity effectively. Ultimately this leads to me being able to act on the opportunity and communicate my findings to others.

Critical Thinking

To effectively understand the opportunity I am researching my critical thinking skills always come into play. Since we all have biases and assumptions it is essential to stay objective. Observation. Analysis. Inference. Communication. Problem Solving.
